The Bible Gateway—Searchable Online Bible

The Bible Gateway at www.biblegateway.com is an internet resource for reading and researching scripture online. What’s better, you can search in the language or Bible translation of your choice! Bible Gateway provides advanced searching capabilities, allowing readers to find and compare particular scriptural passages based on keywords, phrases, or scripture reference.

The Bible Gateway was started in 1993 by Nick Hengeveld while attending Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI. In 1995, Nick became the first webmaster at Gospelcom.net. He brought the Bible Gateway with him, and it became one of the favorite resources provided by Gospelcom.net’s parent company, Gospel Communications International. The Gospelcom.net team has maintained and developed the Bible Gateway, continuing to add new translations, languages, and functionality.

Many publishers and Christian organizations have contributed their Bible resources and translations for use in the Bible Gateway, including Gospelcom.net alliance ministries such as Internet Bible Society and The Lockman Foundation.

Biblegateway.com provides many additional resources for your scriptural reading and study. Many Scriptures are available in audio form allowing you to hear the richness and power of the texts. Biblical commentaries written by some of the brightest theologians provide a series of explanations and interpretations of Scripture. They are intended to provide additional insight into the Bible and can be a valuable resource for both casual Bible reading and serious study. Ebooks are copies of the Bible available in PDF format, generously provided by the International Bible Society. Dictionary entries are available to provide useful history and the context for difficult names, places, and phrases in the Bible. A list of study tools is also now available on the BibleGateway that might help you in your studies. Finally, David and Renee Sanford have created three Bible reading plans to guide you through the text of Scripture. If you're interested in reading more of the Bible but aren't sure where to start, choose the reading plan that best fits your goals and explore the Bible at your own pace.
